What we publish, where our facts come from, and what we do when we get something wrong.
Gunjita is an independent, student-run news publication. We are a community of students and independent journalists reporting on politics, society and public life.
We report in the public interest, not on behalf of any party, government body or organisation. Our only commitment is to our readers and to getting the story right.
Every factual claim in an article should be traceable to a source — an official record, a document, a named report, or a person who was there. Where a fact is drawn from another outlet's reporting, we attribute it.
Where a figure or claim is genuinely contested between sources, we say so in the piece instead of picking the version that reads better.
Two different kinds of writing sit side by side on this site and readers deserve to know which is which.
Reporting sets out what happened and what the record shows. Opinion and analysis carry the writer's judgement and framing, and are clearly presented as such.
Where an article makes a claim that is not a plain statement of verified fact, that claim is the writer's and is open to challenge.
Claims are checked against primary sources where we can reach them, rather than against other websites. We do not invent detail: if we do not know something, the article says so and stops there.
Quotes are used in context, and we do not present inference or rumour as established fact.
News is provisional. Official figures get revised, rulings are appealed, and the facts of a developing story can change after we publish. When that happens we update the article rather than leave an outdated version standing.
Where a correction changes the substance of a piece, we add a dated note explaining what was wrong and what it now says.
We may use software to help check drafts, catch inconsistencies and organise research. We find that genuinely useful and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
What we do not do is publish under a byline that did not do the work. Every article carries the name of the person responsible for it, and that person is accountable for its claims.
Gunjita is editorially independent. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or controlled by any political party, government body or organisation.
We do not accept payment for coverage, and we do not let a relationship decide what gets written or how it is framed. If that ever changes for a given piece, it will be labelled on that piece.
We publish photographs under licence or under terms that permit editorial reuse, and we credit the source on every image. If you own a photograph we have used and the credit is wrong or missing, tell us and we will fix or remove it.
